The solution (that worked for me) to the mod file problem:
Change the file extension from “mod” to “avi”.
If you got loads of files use “A.F.5 Rename your files” at http://www.fauland.com/af5.htm
Great program and it is free (and even the website doesn’t say it supports Vista it works like a charm).
You can rename them to “mpg” to view them but that won’t help much in Adobe Premier because then it still won’t recordnize the audio.
With an avi extension it will.
You need to copy the files from your camera to your hard drive first.
Hope it helped

kito Guest | After a family holiday i transferred my digital videos (.mpg) onto my computer and (to cut a long story short) ALL the .mpg videos were erased!
What remains is .modd files which i’d like to try my luck and transfer into watchable files in any format.
does anyone know if this is possible and if so, how?
(i tried already to change the name from .modd to .mpg but didnt help)
thanks alot

If You’re in windows you can rename a file with these steps:
1. Open the explorer window where your files exist
2. Select the Tools >> Folder Options menu item
3. Click the View Tab
4. Uncheck the option to “Hide extensions for known file types”
5. Click “apply to All Folders if you always want to see the file extensions for every file no matter what folder you are in
6. Click ok to accept all changes and close the dialog window
7. You should now see all the file extensions of the files in the current folder
8. Right click on a filename you wish to change and select Rename
9. Rename the file extension to anything you’d like.
Once you’ve done this, you can just right click a file and rename it in seconds. No software required!
I didn’t have the “always hide file extensions” box so I had to add it to it manually in the “File Types” tab.
Remember that because the file extension isn’t recognized, you might have to add it to the library. So when all of the extensions are displayed, you have the option to create a new one.
then go ahead and type in ".mod” and don’t click advanced, just click ok.
Now the .Mod extension will be at the top of the list.
go ahead and click advanced at the bottom of the dialogue box and select the “always show extension”
Now click ok and the extensions should all show up.
Just delete “mod” and type in “mpeg"

beau21 Guest | Hi,
I have a problem with interlaced footage being encoded to Progressive.
This is the process:
I capture footage into AVID - 25i Project - as Interlaced. I export a clip as a quicktime reference and then proceed to encode to WM9 on TMPEG. I go through all the proper deinterlacing procedures and correct field settings. but when i play the file back over our projector or any other non-interlaced monitor - i find the shots that have a pan tend to jitter. its a subtle jitter as a pan moves left to right or vica versa. I am not talking about the Jagged edges. the deinterlacing solves that. It only occurs on pans. I find that even when i try various other formats incl: mpeg1, Microsoft DV... The same thing happens.
Has anyone experienced this or prehaps has a solution for it?

JVC H8tr Guest | ok, so i also got a JVC HDD camera this past friday, and took videos with it all weekend. i took the videos in the 16:9 widescreen format, and they look fine on the playback on the camera. but as soon as i play them in WMP the picture is very skinny from side to side, but takes up the top and bottom. and also my Adobe Premier Pro doesnt know what .MOD is and wont import it.

DCHAS Guest | Unlead Video Studio 11 Works Perfectly. You may need a codec pack, (not sure) but straight away it recognized .MOD files. It allows you to “SHARE” your video and export to a wmv or about 10 other usable formats. Works perfect, and you get a 30 day fully functional trial!
