I also have the Everio, and I find that the conversion using the supplied software to be p*ss poor quality. I found a free software on the internet that converted (renamed?) the.MOD files to .MPG AND kept the 16:9 ratio. It is called SDCopy. Here is the link:

http://zyvid.com/smf/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=280.0;id=153

and here is the forum where I found it:

http://forums.cnet.com/5208-6142_102-0.html?forumID=59&threadID=145687&messageID=2536449

Good luck.

i HAVE JUST BROUGHT A JVC EVARIO HDD CAMCORDER, HAVE MANAGED TO COPY THE VIDEO FILES TO MY COMPUTER, BUT THE SOFTWARE PROVIDED TO READ THE RECORDED VIDEO FILE CANNOT PLAY IT FOR SOME REASON, I HAVE TAKEN THE ADVICE FROM RECENT QUESTION CONCERNING THE MOD FILE EXTENSION, NOW I CAN PLAY ON WMA BUT I STILL CANNOT PLAY IT ON THE SOFTWARE THAT WAS PROVIDED. I HAVE CHECK IN THE PROPERTIES AND THE FILE HAS DEFINATELY BEEN SAVED AS AN MPEG FILE BUT WHEN I TRY TO IMPORT INTO WINDOW MOVIE MAKER, IT SHOWS AN ERROR MESSAGE THAT SAIS BASICALLY THAT IS CANNOT READ THE FILE FILENAME.MOD, WHICH OF COURSE NOT AN MOD FILE BECAUSE IT HAS BEEN CHANGED TO MPEG. WHY IS THIS ANY IDEAS

I’m glad to see this thread still going - but no one has really solved the real issue here. Renaming MOD to MPEG or MPG is not a workable solution. We all know this (but are afraid to admit it). Sure it looks like it works until you try burning your move oustide of cybersuck - right? Nero Vision 4(when it doesn’t freeze your computer) makes the dvd, but when you play it back it’s jumpy and the sound is not always right. ULEAD? Don’t know about you, but I’m not ready to learn a new product just yet - and does it do everything that Windows Movie maker can do? is it free like WMM? Windows movie maker, although not the best out there, is kinda friendly so it would be nice if we didn’t get the Unspecified error when trying to import those renamed MOD files - right? So I’m here with the rest of ya, still stuck as we approach the technology wonders of 2008. Maybe one day someone will figure out how to create a DVD from the MOD files produced by JVC Everio outside of cybersuck.

I don’t understand how everyone is still having problems with MOD files. I have been using the Everio camera now for well over a year, grab everything from camera to hard drive then use SDCOPY to convert all the files from MOD to MPEG. The nice thing about this software is the speed and the fact it resets the widescreen aspect of the file.

I use Nero to burn the files direct to disk unedited, these then play back in every computer I have tried them on and most new standalone DVD players.

I use Photoshop Premiere and Premiere Elements to do my editing and then Ulead DVD workshop 2 to produce the final disk.

I have never had one fail.

Guest If You’re in windows you can rename a file with these steps:
1. Open the explorer window where your files exist
2. Select the Tools >> Folder Options menu item
3. Click the View Tab
4. Uncheck the option to “Hide extensions for known file types”
5. Click “apply to All Folders if you always want to see the file extensions for every file no matter what folder you are in
6. Click ok to accept all changes and close the dialog window
7. You should now see all the file extensions of the files in the current folder
8. Right click on a filename you wish to change and select Rename
9. Rename the file extension to anything you’d like.

Once you’ve done this, you can just right click a file and rename it in seconds. No software required!

THANK YOU SAUNIE, it’s work but only half way..,

i cant use the converted movie file into windows movie maker. Help Me please....

Yea what you want to do is take the renamed .mpg file and open it with winaviconverter. there you can change the format to .avi or in your case DVD video files(.VOD). Before you convert make sure in the advanced options you change from medium to highest quality and contrast ratio is 4:3 or widescreen 16:9.

then take the (.VOD)file and open nero/roxio and find burn image to disc. then find the link that says burn DVD files to disc or something similar to that.

search on you tube for instructions on how to use video converter and burning DVD files.

........................................good luck!!

I just bought my camera a few weeks ago and ran into the same problem. I converted the files and still cannot burn to a disc. Anyone have any suggestions? I know this is an old topic, but I hope someone will read and respond. Thanks.
