nero does recognise the mod files and import files very fast unlike power dir.. but files are too big u can only record upto aprx 1hr 15 min good quality video i recommend nero version 6 (nero vision express 3 u required) and im able watch my jvc recorded video on standalone dvd player another thing i came through is power dir or nero does,nt recognise mod files if u r using windows service pack 1 .i had to change my cpu i hope this helpfull.

I did this but windows movie maker will not import the file, it comes up:
Newton 3.mpeg could not be imported. An interface has too many methods to fire events from
Any ideas on this. I’m so glad I dropped the money for this turd camcorder.

hallows1 Guest | I have been trying to convert my .mod files to .mpg or .avi by changing the extension of them, but when ever i do change them the file becomes corrupted :s and my copy of power director is corrupted, as its missing a file from it, can anyone help me, its really urgent (got dads 50th in 2 days time)

Gxmechanic Guest | You can try and create a batch file which is similar to a command prompt function except you dont have to type again and again.
Here’s how
1) Open notepad
2) Type in this one line code, without the brackets (rename *.mod *.mpg)
3) Save the file as filename.BAT to the folder where you files are located.
4) Go to the folder location and you will see your file.
5) Double click and viola. Instantly all your MOD files are renamed with the MPG extension
If you prefer to rename to avi, just type (rename *.mod *.avi) instead

Goku999 Guest | There should have been a disk with your camera that installed a particular version of Cyberlin software suite. that should allow conversion to whatever you want as I have been doing for some time. I have two other versions of this software that came bundled with other hardware I purchased but unfortunately those versions do not have the codecs to play the audio of my original files. reinstalling the camer provided software works but again am disapointed by loss of features in the newer software. My solution is to have the original software on one computer where I convert to MPG files. I then take those files to the newer software where I can use the new features without having to spend the $100 on the full version of the software.

if you change it to mpg (rename), the sounds are way faster then the film, and in some cases, the film is also running way to fast.
if you try to import an renamed .mod file in windows movie maker (so its an mpg now) it sais that there’s an error
why does jvc make .mod files anyway
other question, does anybody know a movie making program that does support .mod?

NERO, POWER DVD AND WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER CLASSIC ALL PLAY THE FILES BUT I STILL HAVE THE WAVY LINES AND THE STUTTERING? IT IS ONLY CLEAR WHEN WATCHING ON THE ACTUAL CAMERA PLAY BACK OR THROUGH THE TV. I HAVE DOWNLOADED ULEAD 11 PLUS AND IT ALL WORKS BUT THE LINES ARE STILL THERE. WHY IS THE PICTURE CORRUPT ON THE PC BUT NOT ON THE CAMERA?

Is there anyway someone can simplfy what needs to be done. I have called JVC support and no help. Thinking about taking this darn thing back.. I want something that will allow window player to open up and play it. Thanks for the help!!

panasonic sdr-h200 Guest | this video stuff is pretty frustrating, i’m not sure if there is a better way to edit the .mod files my panasonic sdr h200 camera records. i use 16:9 settingto record Renaming to .mpg like so many places i’ve looked has said, does not work, because it 'squishes' the footage to 4:3 ratio..boo on that!
so far this is all i came up with:
using mpegstreamclip i convert it to a .dv
then i can import it into final cut to edit and make my superfantastical movie.!!
which actually sorta sucks, because it takes up 3 times as much room to convert everything to .dv, and still have the .mod files.
also if anyone has some info about why it squishes the picture when i change the extension to .mpg that would be appreciated.

into it an save it ,then change te extension to .bat
if you activate it it will turn all MOD filles in the map to
mpg and it save you allot of time...

Hmm, It appears to of changed the format but in reality, I don’t think it did. I think I’ve got the same JVC cam as you all and after renaming the format I’m STILL not able to import and edit into Windows Movie Maker.
My JVC is a GZ-MG130 30 gig HDD recorder. It records in an .MOD format. What do I have to do before I’m able to edit my videos in WMMaker?
