Heey i just got this video Camera with a harddriver build in, and it makes all the movie files in .MOD files, but how do i convert them so i can put them into Windows Movie maker.. I got this Program “Cyberlink PowerDirector” but its not as good as Movie maker, so is there a way how to convert them into something acceptable for Movie Maker...

I think i found the solution
MOD files are MPEG2, so i renamed them to . mpg
IT WORKS
But i think you have to installe AC3 filter, you can proberbly find it on the web, but i have installed DJBCP codec pack, this is a (LARGE)collection of free codecs http://www.free-codecs.com/download/DJBCP_Codec_Pack.htm

Gavin Guest | Can you document what you did that meant you could get the MOV files working in movie maker - I AM DESPERATE!
I have changed the file extensions to .mpg and installed a AC3 filter, but I still get an error message. What do I need to do?

Ladyhawke Guest | Yes there is a way.
Use your Cyberlink to produce an AVI to your hard drive. Choose Microsoft AVI as a format and pick a compression Codec. (Movie maker will have a problem with the audio track in DV AVI) I use Microsoft Video.
Now you have a video clip that Movie maker can slice and dice.

Ladyhawke Guest | I have been using the JVC hard drive since Christmas. I’ve been doing the following successfully and burning it to DVD’s since I got the camera.
And if it makes a difference to any film-makers out there, I have a B.A. in film/video. (I do this for a living.)
Open Cyberlink Power Director.
Open and check your footage.
When you import your footage, note that you only see the .MOD, not the .MOI. That is because the MOI is the audio file and is opened with the .MOD (Its automatic.)
Make sure you can play your footage in cyberlink.
Select your footage (green outline)
Select “produce” to open your render window.
Assign your output.
Select “create a file” and click “Next”.
Select “AVI”
In the left drop down list underneath, Select Microsoft AVI.
In the right drop down, Select your quality.
Click the settings button(The Wrench)to open AVI profile settings.
Select Compression “Microsoft Video 1” and
Select Composition “Video and Audio”
Then Click O.K. and it goes back to produce window.
Click next.
Double check your “export file”. This is where you want to find the AVI when it is done.
And Click Start.
Now you have a video clip that Movie maker can slice and dice.
If anyone else has a problem, let me know and I can walk you through it.

cmealor Guest | I converted my MOD files to AVI files using MPEG Streamclip 1.1 (freeware). Once they were converted, I imported them into MOvie Maker. I can play them and they work fine. But once I create a movie by placing them in the storyboard and then hit preview, I have a black video with only audio playing. What am I doing wrong?

sethc04 Guest | hey im also using an everio and i was wondering how, if at all, you can compress the files and perhaps maintain decent quality, as i have a 2min 30sec clip and its like 162mb in mod format and i used Converio 2.0 to convert it to avi and it is something in the neighborhood of 550mb. Any suggestions?

Exactly how do you “rename” the video file... do you mean convert? I can convert using the Cyberlink Editor but I hate all that wasted it time when it comes to converting.
