Help! Ever since I downloaded some codecs to play divx 5 files and upgraded to windows media player 10 (same day), I’ve have trouble with playing other videos. AVI videos are displayed well but all the other formats are played with the wrong colors (greenish, almost black and white). The problem occurs in all video players i’ve tried (windows media player even mplayer2, winamp, real, quicktime). I’ve uninstalled the apps i’ve downloaded to play the divx5 files, but the problem persists. Anyone got solution?

I have read (DIKO help file) that this problem can occur because the file is an mpeg2 file, and thus needs to be opened with a proper player: PowerDVD, Zoomplayer Pro or any other dvd supporting player should play this file correctly

hope it helps

Here is a free tool for avi.Open your file with and find out if is a codecs problem. Also at the bottom of the page you have links for Gspot, try it.Download and play your file with VLC player freeware that uses it’s own codecs.

Im experiencing a similar problem.

All my media files i have on my computer used to play fine, i usually use BS player or real player. All of a sudden the files are either really green or really purple, i deleted the programs and re-installed them but the problem persists. Ive tried Div X and that don’t fix it, windows media don’t fix it, its as if the colour information has gone??

Anyone??

Hey, I have the exact same problem as Diamond. All my video files have messed up colors, I tried opening them with different types of programs, but they are all equally messed up regardless of the program I use. The type of file the video is doesn’t matter because, there are .avi, .mpeg, etc, they are all just playing wrong.

Okay — reinstall Directx — then reinstall your codec pack — be sure to reboot after reinstalling Directx, then reinstall your codec pak! Happy viewing. ;-)

interesting that several users are reporting this problem

i reinstalled my entire OS (xpsp2) and during installtion from sp1 to sp2 i installed the k-lite mega codec pack and everything was playing perfectly.

i then installed sp2 and activated windows and updated windows media player to 9 and now they all play almost without color, everything is so dark that you can hardly see the image

Gspot says i have the correct codec and i they used to play perfectly

i am beginning to suspect Mr microsft has done somthing silly to screw this up, perhaps it was the dx9+ install

will try reinstalling directx and codecs again as suggested and hopefully it will be resolved smiley

Same problem started on my computer recently - all video files now playing with wrong colors, using wmp 11.

Relatively new dell computer with dell-setup op system. Using Nvidia GE7300GT

wmp 11 has capability to download codecs automatically, could it be downloading and installing a codec that would be goofing things up?

I have the same problem as mentioned above.
all codecs(divx xvid wmv mov) is the same, dark and the colors are something close to inverted. uncompressed avi is normal though.

Cracked it!!
Go to your graphics card options.
Properties for overlay, restore standards.
Go to color adjustments, choose overlay and play around with contrast and light until you are satisfied.

this was on a Geforce 7900GT, how this is don on a ATI card i don’t know.

You may need to tinker with you video card settings or perhaps update your video card driver. Sometimes when you update your system, your video card and sound card drivers can get corrupted or replaced with a newer and sometimes glitchy version. search the card manufacturers website and the net for drivers and see if you can find a solution from other people with the same video card as yourself.

One of the reasons for this is hardware acceleration by your graphics card.
If you have an ATI (more than likely) then go to the catalyst control center and deactivate (loose translation) “Hardware assisted Windows Media video”

It’s one of those “bugs” ATI cannot seem to fix... Oh wait, that’s right, it’s not their fault (...) it’s your codec pack (yeah right).

Can anyone give me solution for the same problem?

I tried the solution of Obi Wan Celeri, but I can’t find the line: Hardware assisted WMV.

I do have an Ati videocard.
I’m Dutch, so maybe someone can it in Dutch smiley

Thnx.

I had the same problem. I unchecked the box on acceleration in the settings. This appears to have repaired the inverted color issues, but I am not sure if i want to have the accelerated box unchecked.. radeon 9600 pro 128mb ddr, dx9, mp10 - works great!

I have the problem to.
The colors are inverted.
I don’t think it is the graphics card.
