Guys this is my experience. I had a similar problem before and from suggestions from this forum, I downloaded the ffdshow on my machine but had the same shakky problem. Then I found out that i already had some codecs from klite in a folder called as klite. I uninstalled the existing contents of this folder and then reinstalled the ffdshow software and it worked!! Cheers to this group for all the great suggestions!

Stay away from the filter packs, they only cause contention omong the filters and screw your ins talls up.
Use afilter manager to set the priorities correctly.

I got the same problem. One day, it plays choopy video except for wmv movie. I think it plays choopy when I play AVI movies. I removed AC3 codec software first, and it was still choppy, and then I removed XVID codec software. AND THEN everything looks fine.

All movie plays WELL.

Wonderful. I had to uninstall previous version of Divx codec first. Now runs perfectly.
