when you play a file how do you know what type of file it is .

go to where the file is stored (win XP) and right click on the folder space(not on a specific file but on the empty white space of the viewing screen and change the view to details. this then should reveal the name, size, type, and sometimes duration of the media. this will tell you what all types of files that are in this specific folder in which you changed the view setting to details- I have all my folders set this way-easier for me-may not be for some-hope this helps
