program.exe missing

Hi
I am using XP.
I have downloaded some avi files which play OK from within the “P2P program Theatre”, but when I try to view them from my “My dowloadeds” folder I get the message.

This program needed for opening files of type 'Movie file (AVI)'.

I have searched internet, and found most of the replies to the problem are to do with internet explorer, and earlier Windows 98 etc.
Any advice please.?
