Should say this too:
In Windows I managed to create DVDs from the JVC’s MOD files - using the freeware from Nero.
On the Mac, I now use nothing at all except Toast; not DVdrop, not iLife, not iMovie - just plain Toast. On this platform it’s real fast. I don’t know if it’s the platform or the program, although my bet is it’s the program.

GUEST100 Guest | So annoying...my iBook G4 iMovie will NOT read the camera when attached. iPhoto will read it but Not iMovie. I’ve had to upload it to the Capty software (which is crap) then transfer it to a Quiktime file THEN transfer it to iMovie. Works but takes forever and is extremely annoying. Good luck.

because it had the sound clipped every second,
leaving me with a constant video but horrible
skipped sounds all along.
Zak Staples - I tried your solution but when I drag the renamed MOD files, now mpeg files, to the die icon of streamclip, I get this message as a warning:
“The Apple QuickTime 6 MPEG-2 Playback Component is not installed...
You will miss the two most important features of MPEG Streamclip:
- you won’t be able to play MPEG-2 files and transport streams;
- you won’t be able to convert MPEG-2 files and transport streams to QuickTime, DV, AVI.
However, all other features are always available, including playback and conversion of MPEG-1 to QuickTime, DV, AVI, demuxing of MPEG-1 and MPEG-2, AC3 decoding, and conversion from transport streams to MPEG files (useful if you have Toast 6).
MPEG Streamclip is free of charge but the MPEG-2 Playback Component has a small price (around $20/£15/€20 in most countries); you can buy it online from Apple:

Entree Rep: 0 Joined: 20 Jan 2008 Posts: 6 OFFLINE | I had bought Toast 7, and have since burned several dvds with it, but only now realized the sound was terribly choppy (sound and silent periods alternating).
As it is, Toast is found wanting because
1) it cannot create chapters by binding together several clips,
2) when it adds clips, it does not do so by sorting the clips by time-created, but in an order of sorting by name. That too would not be so bad but it gets the sort wrong because the hex names of the files are not your usual alphabetic sort (eg MOD069 should be followed by MOD06A, not MOD070).
3) when, after you’ve rearranged the clips in good time-creation order, and then add another clip, the stupid program resorts ALL the clips again - in its own screwy order pattern, forcing you to rework through it all.
4) it doesn’t have a good mechanism to tell you how much fits onto a dvd, just a filling-up icon that is inaccurate towards the high end - where you need it most.
I’ve looked at ffmpegx and it looks daunting.
I’ve tried Streamclip (or DVDrop) but then I need a $20 QuickTime Playback Component (which I won’t buy unless I know that’s all I’ll need to get those JVC mod files to dvd.
People say to use VisualHub only I don’t know if that will finally do the trick - by itself.
Wow - I wish I never bought that JVC hard-disk recorder.
But now I’m stuck with a bunch of files I want to save, but do not know how to render them to dvd with my macbook.
I do have a Windows machine, only solutions thereon take over 15 hours per dvd disc, whereas with Toast, although it screwed me on the audio aspect, took 8 to 10 minutes!
Does anyone know - how I can “fix” a Toast setting to get my MOD files rendered right?

Mcruz415 Guest | Please help... I have JVC Everio GZ-MG130 and Powerbook G4 1.67ghz. I can’t upgrade to iLife08 because of the minimum requirements. Capty mpeg software wasn’t included in the package. Is there something that I can download for free without buying anything else to make it work? Thanks and hoping to transfer my files very soon

FrustratedMN Guest | I have the MG130 and am really frustrated... bought the captv and that sucks. I’m hearing that iLife08 is compatible by using the USB connection. Is that true?

iVerio_soft Guest | Have a look at the site http://www.convertmod.com. iVerio Software is the best way to transfer and convert all your videos from your JVC camcorder. You can also create dvd automatically with iDVD. You just have to select videos and choose the type of conversion to make them compatible with all your video players

My equipment is a 17” MacBooK Pro and the Camera..
“Da JVC-GZ-HD7U” that the entire world seems to HATE. A problem unless you upgrade to imovie 08, from what i’ve gathered. I’m living off of noodles, rice and water. Money is an issue and gas is $5.65 a gallon. I can not upgrade. Therefore my only option is to work with what I got. I want to take all the stuff I’ve recorded on my JVC GZ-HD7U and put it into imovie make it look perty and cool, then burn it to a DVD and send it to family and friends. Now My mission is life is to do just that. Make this work. I want to edit dam it.
What I DiD
1.Turn on the Camera and set it to Video mode. On the little LCD sceen I see a 9 window thumnail of stuff I’ve recorded.
2. Turn on the MAC
3. I’ve elected to use a FIREWIRE cable to hook up both units together. From what I’ve gathered it’s a bit faster and better, I think,...ey monkey see monkey do....besides the wire was free.
4. Now here lies the problem. What da the hell do I do to play with these files. Humm import button ok I click it waited 2 days nothing happened. It is safe to say that IT"S NOT WORKING BOSS, after 2 days of waiting for a 5 minute video to download onto imovie 06: it’s not working Boss.
5. Hummm Google it.
6. Forum after Forum after Forum.
Everyone seems to have an opinion of what to get and what to use because of quality and fast out put ratio verse waiting time.
Again I’m on the below Ackins diet and money is an issue therefore I elected to download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.1 from the good folks at http://www.squared5.com
In digging a little further on the web I find out that in order to see my stuff before hand I need to purchase something called an MPEG 2 viewer avalible from apple. ok haven’t done that one yet.
My conflict now is what I gota do in order to get those files off of my camera into the MAC> into MPEG Streamclip > into imovie.
Can anyone help out a young dum full of tums wanna be film student. Oh and please step by step instructions; I’m a product of the great Los Angeles Unified School District so Barney style please.
Or if you know of a better way please please list it. And again Barney style.
Thanx For Something
