jumping screen after coversion & burn

I’m getting a jumpy screen on my DVD. I’m using winavi to convert my .avi files. I then use Nero to burn it onto a dvd for backup. I have just got this problem in the last couple of burns. Let me know if it is just tough luck or am I doing something wrong.
