Go to this site and download some stuff. To check your file you need a video analyser like GSpot or Avicodec, open your avi file with one of them and is going to tell you what audio and video codecs you may need. Besides this you need a basic codecs collection like All in One pack,Xvid, DivX, XP and for sound AC3 filter is a must. Download and use players like VLC,BSplayer and Media Classic work better than WMP. Good Luck. http://www.free-codecs.com/
