Changing the extension from .ogm to .avi doesn’t do a thing. Windows media player (or what have you) will recognize the content and play it regardless. If you stick that into a standalone divx/dvd player, you just wasted a cd. OGM format is basically a divx encoded vide with ogg encoded audio. Bsically, ogg compresses the audio alot further then mp3 can, making more room for the video file = slightly better video quality. Hope this cleared stuff up.

Hi,
I came here searching for a method to convert my OGM files in AVI’s. However the solution seemed pretty complicated and I couldn’t understand it. Luckily I didn’t give up and have found a fantastic beta program that will do all of the stages described for you grin.

You can find the FREE PROGRAM here - http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=135660&package_id=149026&release_id=319632

Good Luck!

Hey,
It seems that you have to divide the OGM file into video and audio segments (with VirtualDub Mod?) then tie them together again using (MixMux or something).

Well if you don’t understand a word of this supposedly simple procedure, fear not! I don’t either, but I can still convert using this FANTASTIC FREEWARE program > OGMtoAVI_Alpha

Get it here - http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=135660&package_id=149026&release_id=319632

Ok, I got that free program, and it’s great, but now is there a way to keep both language tracks and subtitles in the avi file when you convert it?

if ur wondering how to use it PROPERLY... its simple.
1. open up your command prompt
2. drag the “ogm->avi converter into command prompt
3. drag the ogm files u want to be converted into the command prompt. (you may have as many files you like as long as you have a space in between it usually you dont need to add anything tho.)
4. hit the ENTER key on your keyboard.
after a few minutes or hours you will have a new avi file. the file will automatically go to file the the ogm came from. usually located at the bottom.
*if you want subs of other languages i dont no yet but if u figure it out please post it!!!
** if ur dumb and get a 24gb file u did sumthin weird and cant help you sory.

yes the command prompt is the black window acessable in the start, programs, accessories, window. after opening drag and drop the editor into the window PRESS SPACE then drag and drop the ogm file into the command prompt then press enter.
btw if you have a mac operation system so i dont think it is compadible. if u do hav a mac my sympathy to u
also im not sure about the older windows operating systems but it definitely works on xp
