mpeg file flickers in Premiere Pro timeline

I’m working on Premiere Pro. I ripped footage off a dvd using Pinnacle into an mpeg file.

When I play the file, it’s perfect. When I drag it into the timeline in Premiere, the video flickers about every 2 minutes causing the audio to be off.

I tried right clicking on the file in the bin to “remove flickering” but that’s not working.

When the file is in the bin in Premiere, it’s fine. It’s just when I drag it into the timeline that the problems start.

I tried converting it into an avi but I lose quality.

Any suggestions?
