I’m new to this sort of thing. I’m a scientist and have a system where a video camera records direct into a hard drive recorder, which then can record onto dvd’s. So basically I have VOB files on a dvd. It plays in things like windvd etc. I want to take stills, at specific known times (frame by frame in some instances), so I can study them. My question is what is the best way to get what I want? Please bare in mind that it can’t be too complex or lose quality.

Marcus Aurelius Guest | I use two video editors Hollywood FX part from Pinnacle Studio 10 and Ulead Video Studio v9.0. Both very complex softwares with a lot of features. Also TMPGEnc MPEG Editor is not bad but not the same with first two.

k parkill Guest | I wish I could afford that, unfortunately budgets would not be able to stretch that far.
In general converting from vob type files to avi/mepg etc causes a reduction of about 60% in whatever program I have use. I’d rather be able to take stills from the dvd direct, things like power dvd do it, but I can’t control the time well enough, or even at least know the exact time.
