MPG last10mb of 600mb file dead

Hi,
I have a 600mb file on a cdrom that has a fingerprint on the edge. Hmm someones chips I think.
This results in the file attempting to load and gets 590mb then drops out with unable to load or read the file without displaying a thing.
No player appears to handle it at all.
Same happpens when attempting to just copy the file to the hard drive. copies nicely till last 10 mb then drops without actually saving anything.
Is there anything I can do? This is the only cd of this movie.

May take a long time to recover though. Risky business, pretty much.

Or possibly creating an ISO may work.
