.AVI file wont't play even if its 99.7% complete

Hey — I am trying to play a .avi file which in 99.7% done when I closed it long time ago. for some reason it only plays like the first 5 mins of the movie. but its a 1.37 gig file.
I am wondering if anyone knows how to play this file even though its not completely finished downloading.
