How long does it take to convert 30 minute avi to dvd

I created a 30 minute .wmv using Microsoft Movie maker (which totally sucks!), then had to use Vegas Video to fix the M.M.M. problems I encountered. When Vegas was done (12 hours later), the file is now about 9GB. I was wondering if this file (when converted to dvd) will fit on a DVR. anyone? — >thanks PS: If I sound like a newbie, I am!
