nadroj Guest | When i watch a video-stream to the end(http://svt.se/content/1/c6/53/34/02/060207debatt.asx)there is a copy saved as a DAT-file in the temporary internet files-catalog.
(mms://qstream-wm.qbrick.com/00928/nyheter/2006/060208/fett12.wmv#0;1.000;0;0;1:2;5:2)
Obviously it´s a converted wmv-file.
I know already how to save the video-stream to the harddisk (whith SDP multimedia or other free- and shareware) but is it possible to convert/play this - from my point of view unintendendly saved - DAT-file and which program could I use to do it?
Thanks in advance! | |

nadroj Guest | Thanks!
When I tried the VCDGEAR I recieved to error-messages: “Could not locate MPEG stream” and
“WARNING: Specified DAT file has an invalid XA header signature”
Is´t possible to solve this problem or do I need another program?
Bay the way I found it quite ridiculous that such files is safed on my computer unintentional from my point of view. Even if it would be possible to view/use the DAT file it takes a lot of space on the hardware in my computer every time a watch a video-stream. I am not surprised that an increasing number of people start to use Linux instead of Microsoft!

Guido Guest | I’ve had the same problem when trying to convert a .dat file into an MPEG. Could it have something to do with the fact that the original file was in .wmv format rather than in .mpeg format? If so, what is the work-around?

al1234 Guest | Yes, totally.
I read on other forums that people use WM_Recorder. But you have to but it.
What we need is some program to parse the DAT file and output a plain WMV with the same data as in DAT, but a different wrapper.

WHEN I COPY THE FILE AND PAST IN OTHER FOLDER WIN RENAMES TO DAT.

Marty McFly Guest | Easiest way is to use the free VLC Media Player to open the stream then tick the “save stream” option. Works every time. You can even select from dumping the raw stream or encoding to a new format such as mp4!
