When playing videos for the past year or so I’m getting lock-ups where windows loops the last few milliseconds of audio and the screen freezes with no way out of it but to reboot. Its always exactly the same type of crash and I’m finding it hard to troubleshoot to begin to fix.

I’ve had the problem with 2 different graphics cards, 2 different motherboards (I think), and many graphics card drivers .. I’ve tried 2 different codec packs (nimo’s and k-lite) but nothings changed.

It happens with any and all video players I use.. Winamp, WMP, VideoLAN, media player classic, or Quicktime player.

I am currently trying to spot which file types cause the crashes. Not all videos will cause a crash.

So far I’ve spotted XviD as a culprit but I’ve not been looking for long. Also Nero audio decoder was being used according to g-spot in both videos I looked at.
