environment: W2k SP4 fully updated, WMP9, updated, Real Player V10, ACDSee6.0.0.0064.
Everything worked (almost) fine. I had an update for W2K, or maybe I touched some dirty page (I suspect Mediapipe movies and movieland).
I cancelled my trial there (it really never was tested) using the suggested procedure.
From that moment on all my video players (including old WMP7) play most (but not all) of my video, with black vertical lines, perfectly spaced and straight, about 1/8th or 1/4 of an inch wide. Image below is not strechted, is just masked.
The only player that works OK is Winamp. I also noticed that if I start playing with i.e Real player, everything works Ok on WMP9 and ACDSee, and so happens if I start any of these players, the first one has black stripes, the following sessions work OK. I reinstalled WMP9, no result. Installed wmp6cdcs-.EXE (reinstall all components) and WM9Codecs9x.exe
packages. No change. I traced the processes with Filemon, noticed that file divx_cx32.ax was searched for and not found, so I downloaded it and put it in the path, Now it doesn’t generate errors, but the problem persists.
Any chance of restoring functionality to original ? And technically what in the world has happened ???? Thank you, mike (Italy)
