mpeg to dvd conversion great picture no sound

Ive tried using dvd santa, avs video converter, and cucusoft avi/mpeg to dvd/vscd/vcd converter and they all seem to work great except for no sound. When I look in the temporary video and audio ts folders the video is there but there is nothing in the audio folders. Isn there something special I need to do????? The files have sound when played with the windows media player. P.S. And I dont get the fact that cucusoft says avi/mpeg but when you get into the program it only mentions avi to dvd/svcd/vcd, but it works for the video?????
