probs playing dvds?

any 1 help?
my dvd drive has stopped playing half my dvd collection,ie my copied discs.it used to play them all with no problems but now asks me to insert disc even when theirs one in,thats when it doesnt crash.
im using asusdvd to play my dvds and used to work fine,it still plays all original dvds ok.
is my drive knackered?or need cleaning?
HELP!
