Unreadable AVI

A friend has taken raw footage converted it to an AVI and burnt it on cd’s for me. I am unable to see any video but I hear audio. I keep getting messages about it being an “unreadable compression” or not having the proper “decompressor”. I think maybe a Codec is what I’m looking for. Any and all information you may have would be greatly apperciated. Thanks.

yes you do need a codec, you should ask your friend what codec you need, or what program he compressed it with
