I took a movie from my kodak digital camera and put it on my computer, the default program that it downloads in is quicktime, id like to put the movie in windows movie maker so i can edit and maybe add some music, is their any way to make the file format from a quicktime movie file compatible with windows movie maker?

Yep - convert the file. Assuming it isn’t corrupt or incomplete (which you can check with the G-Spot Codec Information Appliance; download it from http://www.headbands.com/gspot/), you should be able to convert the video to virtually any format, at a variety of qualities. I recommend using VideoConverter Plus. It’s not free (you could crack it, but I recommend buying it, because its not expensive), but it is powerful software which is easy to use and will tackle a variety of formats. I use it on the rare occasions that I bother editing videos - not my field, really! Download the Shareware at http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Multimedia_and_Graphics/Video_and_Animation_Tools/Video_Converter_Plus.html

Alternatively, get hold of a better media editing suite than Windows Move Maker(which is frankly crap). I highly recommend Blaze Media Pro (which, again, isnt free, and is slightly more expensive), which is VERY powerful software. It has one major drawback - it doesnt handle .mov files.

You could convert the video first, if you wanted. There are other editors out there (duh), but Blaze is the best I’ve found, and makes me feel like a real pro when I’m doing stuff. Even though I suck... Either way, the choice is yours, and fortunately, you can always change your mind!

Hope this helps.

Concerning the Error ID = 0xC00D1199 Condition ID = 000000000. This problem occurs when you have downloaded an Avi or Mpeg file that has not been completed. Due to this, even though the size of the file is acurate, the data within the file is raw. I came across this problem after partially downloading torrent files. If anyone came across software to repair these files it would be great to post it, otherwise another solution would be to download the file again, without partial downloads. Cheers

The program Divfix can be used to rebuild indexes of partially downloaded files. great if you only got 99.7% etc. it’ll create the index file so that the movie will work. You can also strip the index to try and finish the download.

marcus — what problem? you havent actually said what the problem is...

johno — download the G-Spot Codec Information Appliance from www.headband.com/gspot (I think). That should tell you what Codec the movie is using, whether it is complete, not corrupted etc. Chances are you need DivX player (free, at www.divx.com). Hope this helps.

I KNOW EXACTLY HOW TO FIX THIS PROBLEM WITHOUT DOWNLOADING A NEW CODECS.

1. Download dBpowerAMP Music Converter (try download.com)
2. Start the music converter and open the file in it
3. Convert it to mp3 (lame) and it will play in windows media player (it only plays in quicktime before you convert it)

I get the above error from wmp10 and I get this error from Windows Media Player 6:

Cannot play back the file. The format is not supported. (Error=80040265)

Wierd thing is I used to be able to play all my files in either of the two programs but now I can’t. Only thing I have done is try to delete ADsidesearch from my computer which required altering my registry. I have tried to delete and reinstall wmp10 and tried to revert back to wmp9 to no avail. HELP!! I downloaded VLC mp and the files will play but the quality sucks! Very grainy and some of the sound won’t play. What have I done?? Is there a regfix program to reinstall all the registry files I deleted? Unforunately while trying to fix my problems I eleted my sytem restore points so I’m screwed there too! What can be done? I’d pay good money at this point for a remedy!!!

Easy now - no money needed wink
First thing to do is to reinstall the latest version of all your drivers (sound, video, DivX (get v 9.0 if you can), chipset etc. - not just the obviously related ones). Then, Go Start -> Run, and type “dxdiag” in the box. Hit enter. Go to the “Sound” tab, and make sure the Slider is set to “Standard acceleration”. Run the tests. Also go to the “Music” tab, and run all tests there.

Next, go to the Device Manager (Rt. click My Computer -> Properties, hardware tab, Device Manager), and look for any icons with yellow question or exclamation marks - these represent hardware which is no longer installed or is having problems. Reinstall any drivers for those.

In general, try to make sure everything should be working. If you still have a problem, post again; and whatever happens - don’t panic. We’re here for you.

You’ll need to visit the manufacturer’s sites - so if your sound card is made by Creative, visit their website, and download the drivers. Check whether or not your video card supports DivX 9.0 (you can do this through their site), and if so, visit the DivX website and download. Etc.
Also (sorry), run Microsoft Update (or Windows Update if that’s all you have installed), and install anything they recommend.
Just make sure everything is up-to-date.

Your computer may have come with a CD with lots of drivers and stuff on it. If you stick that in the drive, you should be able to see if anything doesn’t have the proper drivers.

You might want to try what I suggested about dxdiag first.

You could also stick the Windows CD in the drive and reboot, and see if you can run a Repair install.

Really don’t have time to explain right now - its a laborious process (what you have to do, not the explaining), but it’s worth it, and it’ll probably work. So try it. If it still doesn’t work, post again, and we’ll work on it.
