question with mdf and mds files

I got an DVD image file of a PC game from my friend. However, after I install the game using Daemon 3.74 for mounting the image, I couldn’t get the game to run with mounting the mdf or mds file that is within the game file. The message pop up after I run the program is “Please insert the correct DVD ROM”. I am thinking if this is the problem of the mdf file. Is there any way to solve this or is my idea wrong? thank you
