sample rate problem

something is wrong with my audio codecs.

i have to keep adjusting the sample rate to the files i play. like if my sound card (echo layla24) is set to 44,100hz and i play file with a different sample rate, it will not convert. it will play too slow or too fast... so i set the sound card to the sample rate of the file, and it plays fine. but its annoying to keep changing the sample rate all the time..
it used to be automatic before. i dont know how i messed it up.
can anyone help please?
