Video and Audio out of sync

When I play most video, the Video and Audio is out of sync for about 3 seconds. Shut down everything except video player and anti-virus. My RAM sits at 61% free (117 Mcool, I cant tell what CPU activity is like since I am on Win98 SE.

Both video programs does this: MS Media Player
and Media Player Classic/Alternative.
