Trying to install ac3filter_0_70b.exe getting "program too big to fit in memory" error

I have downloaded the AC3 codec but whenever I run the .exe I get a DOS box and the error “program too big to fit in memory”

The machine has 1 GB of RAM installed and all unecessary applications and even processes are shut down. Task manager reports 750MB free memory, and the AC3 .exe is only 296KB in size. This is peculiar but I haven’t found a single relevant post anywhere on the www or usenet

Any ideas peeps?
