mpg to MAC editable movie file???

Hello,

I have had a major problem trying to edit a clip of a presentation b/c the download clip is a mpg which is not recognized on the MAC computer. I already bought Quicktime PRO on the PC to convert the mpg to a mov file but Quicktime doesn’t recognize the file either...please help.
