Computer illiterate here, so looking for much needed advice. I’m trying to burn a video clip onto a DVD using Sonic DigMedia LE v7. The drive is +/- and the DVD itself is +. The video clip is given a Windows Media Player icon in the folder where it is located on my desktop.

When I try and “add file” through Sonic, I receive a message saying:

“The software that’s used to decode the media is not available on this system. Installing the correct decoders for the files you are working with may help..."

Not sure if this makes any difference, but I have been using DivX to view the files earlier.

Dell computers come bundled with Sonic Digital Media LE a small version of Sonic and in order to use the software in a full functional way you have to upgrade to Sonic Digital Media Deluxe V7.0 and is not free. Sonic is also included in Roxio Easy Media Creator 9, My DVD and Record Now.Roxio and Nero are very complex softwares and you need some experience to use them. An easy way to work with avi files is :first a video converter from avi to dvd ( vob files) and a burning software for vob’s dvd files. VSO SOftwares are very fast and small, one click type but the trial has limits for converted file and copy to dvd is a good burning software. Google for video converters and burning softwares and you’re going to find tones of them. And Claire if you save your dvd on hard drive properly you have to have a video ts folder with vob files and a audio folder empty. Open your burning software and find burning dvd’s and burn it. DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink are freewares and good to copy a dvd on your computer.Good Luck.

trying to burn a cd but this keeps popping up:

There was a problem reading data fast enough to your recorder. Click retry to have Sonic Digitalmedia LE v 7 to recover from this error. You will need to have another blank disc ready.

It just started doing this. never had a problem before.

NESS...your problem could be as simple as bad DVD media...there are a lot of crappy blank DVD media/discs out there for sale, and some of them won’t even be recognized by many players/recorders. If your blank DVDs came from China they are most likely the worst DVD media available and no better than garbage. Same is true with blank DVD media(discs) as with anything - you get what you pay for.
THE BEST DVD MEDIA is...Pioneer PVC001001 and other #s(if you are lucky enough to find any - they stopped making it a few years back), TAIYO YUDEN TYG01 and other #s, and some HITACHI/MAXELL MXLRG01 and other #s, Mitsubishi Chemical MCC002 and other #s, some SONY, and some TDK...do a search for the best DVD media codes to get all of the best DVD media info. The best DVD media comes from Japan, NOT China/Hong Kong.

I have a relatively new Dell E510 (3Gig Pentium 4 631HT processor; 250GigHD; 1Gig DDR II memory; with a TSST DVD-ROM, and a Philips DVD+RW burner), and I uninstalled the SONIC software that came on it becuz it was useless. Get IMGBURN for burning DVDs and whatnot...it’s completely FREE...and downloads fast, even on dial-up....just Google 'Imgburn' and you’ll find it easily. It’s better than NERO...

I’m having a similar problem.
I’ve been using Sonic Record Now v7.22 for two years without any problems until last week. At first I thought it was bad media, so I switched from using dvd+r to dvd-r (Verbatim). During the verification process, Sonic stops with 30 seconds to go and says there is some error with the files not matching the original source:

Sense: 03 ASC: 11 ASCQ: 00 (Command 28)
— — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — -
Px.dll: 3.4.46.500
pxdrv.dll: 1.2.1.0
PxMas.dll: 3.4.46.500
PxSFS.DLL: 3.4.46.500
PxWave.dll: 3.4.46.500
PXWMA.dll: 1.0.0.3

So I’m thinking it’s either a problem with Sonic or the burner itself. I’m looking into a new (free — student budget) burning program.
