The thing is that I have a video file (.mpg) which won’t play. WMP keeps telling me that an error has occured and that it can’t locate all the necessary codecs to view the file. I can still see it, but there is no sound and as soon as I touch anything it stops and I get an error message saying that it has encountered an unknown error and can’t continue.

I’ve tried using AVIcodec and GSpot to find out which codecs are missing, but there is a problem....AVIcodec can’t find any problems and tells me that I have all the necessary codecs. GSpot tells me that I don’t have ANY of the necessary codecs at all. I’ve tried letting GSpot run the movie to find out which codecs are missing, but for some reason it doesn’t know.

I already have MPEG-3, MPEG-4 and MPEG. The only one I’m missing is MPEG-2, but as far as I know the MPEG-3 and MPEG-4 codecs should enable me to play MPEG-2 files too. The reason I’m guessing for MPEG-2 is that AVIcodec tells me that that is the one to use, but that I already have it. It’s not on my codec list though...

To be honest I have no idea whether it is a video codec or an audio codec that is missing. Since I do get picture I’m leaning more towards the audio codec, but it could be both since WMP seems to have such problems just showing it.

As far as codec packs go.......I have the DivX and the XviD packs, and I know from personal experience that mixing them with for example the nimo-pack will only result in me not being abel to watch ANY videos. For some reasons they seem to cancel eachother out.

I have tried other players besides WMP (BSplayer, winamp and DivX Player) but they all give the same result, picture but no sound and as soon as I touch anything I get an error message.

Any help you can give me will be GREATLY appreciated. I’m using Win XP if that is any help to anyone, and my WMP is version 9.0.
