Nero Express 6 won't accept media and adds an audio track outta nowhere...

I recently formatted the HD and installed a friend’s Nero Express 6, but it wont accept any media I try to use. The cd is dead empty and still it says it’s full and asks to insert a clean one.
Checking the media after that, a 44kb audio track shows up and the capacity shows 292 mb of used space. It’s just crazy...
An idea on what could be wrong?
