I have had this problem a couple of times with my Epson 3170. Both times I overcame the problem by cleaning te scanner glass very thoroughly. It must be trying to read some dirt on the glass

I am having the same problem!!! I tried cleaning my scanner glass and it still doesn’t work. I was wondering if you ever got yours working or if there is anyone else that can tell me what to do.
Thanks.

Cleaning the glass won’t help you much just to have a clean scanner but how about if try to reinstall the driver for your scanner or printer or whatever is it.Use the disk from the manufacturer and reinstall or repair the software if you don’t have write down the model and find the driver on manufacturer’s web site.If your connection is USB try the port for something like a memory stick or whatever use the USB and if is ok is only the driver.Sometimes if you are on USB works but I don’t reccomand it to unplug and plug back the connector and is going to reinstall the generic driver for your unit.Good Luck guys and save your Windex.

I already unplugged and plugged the USB connector back in and tried using the disk that came with it and also tried downloading it from the Lexmark site. (It’s a Lexmark X6170 All in one) Everything works except the scanner. Even when I tried to reinstall it from the disk or the website, the error pops up before the download is finished.
Any other suggestions?? HELP!!! PLEASE!!!

If your printer is still in warranty you may use their support or find a dealer to fix it.Good Luck.

Hi. I went to the Lexmark site and downloaded the drivers and it still has the same message. Should I plug in the All in one and download the drivers that were saved to my desktop from the site before downloading the software from the CD that came with the Lexmark? When I use the CD to install the Lexmark, it stops and comes up with that message before it even finishes downloading.
I’m at my wits end!!!

if you go into your printer folder
mine was C:\\Documents and Settings\\owner\\application data\epson\escndv\es004b

in there is a BMP file, it’s the saved preview image that may have been corrupted. deleted that and everything was fine...hope this works

Geebsy,

You are now my hero. The solution of deleting the file in C:\\Documents and Settings\\owner\\application data\epson\escndv\es004b

is the answer.

All Hail Geebsy!

my epson stylus cx5000 is giving me and error message of escndv.exe. I just replaced cartridges, which took forever to get to even print and now it scanned one pic and is giving me this error. I have unplugged the usb port cable , turned off computer and printer numerous times to no avail. I use XP with automatic updates? Any help would be appreciated.

This was suppose to make my life easier. I prefer the seperate equipment if i am going to keep having problems. My $30 lexmark was better and less hassle than this equipment.

thanks.
