Hi, I checked some of the previous posts and I appear to be having a similar problem. I am uploading clips from my Kodak Easyshare CX7430 and have been using Bink to convert them from .MOV to .AVI for editing and such. However, when I get long video clips, I find that I can’t play them once they’re converted. They end up chugging very badly and instead look like slideshows with sound. Well, again, I saw the previous posts, especially the one by Dave, but the problem is, that’s almost a year old, so I don’t know if I can get help from him. If anyone else knows a solution, I’d really appreciate it.

At last, not easy but I have managed to allow access to our .mov files from a PC running XP and Windows Movie maker. It all seemed so simple before when it was just a Mac, but achieving this has been very stressful. I know others tend to blame Kodak or whoever makes the camera they are using, but I think its down to Microsoft being a law unto themself and ignoring any industry standards.
In my case, as I understand it:-
My Kodak DX6440 camera produces .mov files (the container) with the content compressed using h.263 (the codec). Microsoft uses their own in-house stuff and don’t provide much help in converting, so you need to go from .mov to .avi and either change the codec or load the h.263 codec onto the PC. I did the latter. I got mp4cam2avi (http://sourceforge.net/projects/mp4cam2avi/ ), and if you read the information there it will also point you to a product ffdshow to get the h.263 codec. Everything seems simple again and just works.

Spoke too soon. While Windws Media Player will happily play the files and Windows Movie Maker will import and preview them, as soon as I drag a clip to the timeline the application crashes without so much as an explanation. I downloaded Windows Media Encoder hoping that it would be able to at least take the clips as input and convert to yet another format, but no, the same result, it crashes without any explanation. I feel very annoyed and frustrated and want to tell them to get a proper computer with decent software on it, i.e. a Mac running OSX with Quicktime, iMovie etc etc.

Hi guys.

I would really appreciate some help. I have a Nikon Coolpix 4600 camera, and all my videos from it are in the 'Quick time movie' format. I needed to use Windows Movie maker for a big project for my school, and the videos from my camera that are on my computer won’t import as they are the incorrect format or something. The pictures from my camera work on Windows movie maker, but my videos do not! I’m not very good with computers so i’m absolutely lost!! I’ve been desperately searching all over the internet and was guided to this forum hoping somewould could help me. Please contact me via this forum or my e-mail. Thanks guys, please help me!!

I have a MAC using OSX 10.3.9. I download my AVi files from my Cannon Powershot, and the file sizes are large, so I convert them using QT PRO to mov files, and no one on a PC can view them. I even tried making a webpage and putting in the QT plug-in - no go. why is it doing that? I don’t want to upload 20MB AVI files, too large.

Hi all of you looking for video format conversion.
The best I’ve discovered (imo) has been eo-video @ http://eo-video.com ..it might be all that you’re looking for & worth the price, it hasn’t failed for my purposes & I’ve been using it for over a year (v1.36) mostly for .mov to mpeg or> .avi & sometimes for joining videos

Ok, same here, I got a Kodak easy share V530 and downloaded the rad tools. When I try to convert the file everything works fine except it says the video is only two frames. The remaining 10 minutes of video isn’t converted. Any ideas?

The video plays fine in Quicktime.

I just want to thank Georgia and Dave. The riverpast video cleaner worked really great. the program is very easy to use. I highly recommed that you try it if you are having problems with MOV files.

Hey, I’m jus wondering if anyone can answer this question for me. I have downloaded the RAD Tools program, but every time I open it, it brings me back to the installation page. I can’t actually access the program, only install it time after time. What is going on??

Hey everyone!
Once you convert your files, import them to windows movie maker and then go upload them to this site, www.LiveDigital.com. It’s a great way to share your movies instead of emailing them. I went to Europe last year and I took a bunch of movies with my camera, but they were all formatted for quicktime which doesn’t work with moviemaker. I used RAD Video Tools to convert them and then I uploaded them to this site to share with everyone. Go check it out, it’s awesome.
