dev Guest | I just bought a cx7530 digital camera that takes quicktime movies and was mortified that I couldnt’t do anything with these .mov pixs in Windows Movie Maker. I downloaded the RAD tools and it converted it in seconds - I played it instantly on WMM. I can’t thank you enough for this information. Seriously - thank you!

davemazm Guest | i myself dave purchased only just 2 weeks ago november 2004 a kodak dx6490,only reason i bought this was my dolphin camera did video but no audio,so i purchased the kodak cause does audio and video, then i find only quicktime movie player supports this file,so getting fed up i did some serious searching, and i came up with to convert .mov file to avi was RIVERPAST_VIDEO CLEANER VERSION 5.1, useing this i am able to convert .mov to avi or convert .mov to wma(profile) without loosing video or audio sound quality,i do recomend this to anyone, doesn’t matter if you own kodak, fuji, olympus etc they all seem to use quicktime nowadays,if you want to post me write to davemazm@aol.com,and in subject heading please state its q about .mov conversion, otherwise i get rid of mail i don’t know who sent.
regards dave

lala20 Guest | I’m trying to convert .mov files made with the KODAK Easy Share LS 753 Digital Camera but i haven’t had any success using RAD tools. I get a message saying that the program can’t decompress the audio (error1) and that either the full version of Quick time is not installed or that my file uses an obscure or broken audio codec. I reinstalled Quicktime with all the options selected but the conversion in RAD is still not working (I get video but not audio). I checked that my camera used MPEG4 for video and
uLaw 2:1 for audio compression. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

That’s a documented issue with rad video tools. It doesn’t handle all quicktime audio formats. If you happen to have one of the audio formats it doesn’t handle you may just have to pull out your wallet and pay apple $30 for quicktime pro.

http://www.videohelp.com/mov2avi.htm
“Some Quick Time Movies have audio copy protection. A solution for it to download the application Total Recorder 3.0+. After starting this application you must press the recording button and start your Quick Time Movie. Total Recorder will only record the sound that come from the Quick Time Movie. After recording, you have to save it as wav and multiplex it for example with TMPGEnc."
I wonder if that’s the main reason why some people aren’t getting audio through rad. Any feedback welcome.

natedurban Guest | OK so I bought QuickTime Pro.
Went through the File-Export-mov to avi process and pressed Save.
The program seemed like it was working but went into an endless loop (well at least for 10 minutes until I stopped it)
Now what? How do I get the .mov to an .avi file? Am I missing something?

It’s hard to know what’s wrong with a proprietary format like quicktime, windows media, or real. This could indicate corruption (that’s my best guess). Try experimenting with various codecs and settings for the conversion process. When you go to file/export/movie to avi, click on options, then tinker with the various codecs offered. If it doesn’t work try an intermediate conversion. Convert to a QuickTime movie (with no compression), then convert that output to avi, see if it works. If all this fails, try to see approximately what point in the movie the conversion stalls. Move the tiny little arrows under the timeline bar so you select the portion after the stalling point. Then go to edit and choose clear. Click on file, save as (make self-contained). Do the same for the portion after the stall point, then convert each one to avi then merge them with VirtualDub. (I know my solution is really far-fetched, but it’s really for if you ABSOLUTELY need the file converted at any price)
(to spout)
When you do your conversion you should get a popup box with a drop-down menu for various codecs. Do NOT choose “full frames, uncompressed”.

Tangelaine Guest | Hey guys, THANK YOU! I found this forum while I was searching for a ".mov to .avi” software. I was almost discouraged when I found you!! I just bought the Easyshare and I was so deceived when I realised that it was “Quicktime Player”...I’m going to install the Ramtools.exe...Great! :0)
