BT Guest | Hi all...
I’ve pretty much read all of the posts now from the last 2 years or so, and I started taking down a list of the things suggested... and figured I’d post them all here too: save some people from having to read all 15 pages.
SO (in no particular order):
1) “If your (sic) using a kodak easy share camera and have the easyshare software (you can download it for free). You can convert the mov files to avi. Just click the movie and press edit. Then push save as. Click on the file type box and change it to avi. The weirdest thing though is that when you rename it, you must type in ".avi” after the file name. If you don’t, even though you have the file type as avi, the program will save it as a mov.
I figured that I’d post this to see if this helped anybody. I really wish there was a better free way, since you lose a lot of quality when you do it like this."
2) http://www.radgametools.com/down/Bink/RADTools.exe
3) http://sourceforge.net/projects/mp4cam2avi/
4) http://www.riverpast.com/en/prod/videocleaner/
5) http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/forpros/encoder/default.mspx
6) http://www.effectmatrix.com/ [NB I have tried this with my own Kodak mov files and can’t get it to work]
7) http://www.video-convert-master.com/downloadserver/mcfunsoft/VideoConvertMaster.exe
8) and this is using programming codecs:
http://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=282516
9) http://www.assassinationscience.com/johncostella/kodak/
also:
10) — moderated — please, don’t post serials
11) and (codec problems):
“whatever codecs your encoding it to must not be present on your work computer, first make sure you have windows media player 9, then set it to automatically download codecs, if this fails go to :
http://avicodec.duby.info/ftp/AVIcodec_1.2_b110.exe
this downloads AVIcodec which analyses the codecs, then type the codec name into google and download”
...hope that’s helpful. I’m not sure if Davem is still around... that was 2005, after all.
Cheers

BT Guest | ya allright
and now I’ve tried the Easyshare way, and it only saves individual still shots
and MP4cam2avi converts to avi easily enough, but then it’s only audio, not video... is this a “codecs” problem, and if so what do i do about it?

BT Guest | wow. okay so VideoConvertMaster.exe totally works (#7), but I don’t really understand about the registration thing... is that directing us to softarchive.net to get a password? It’s asking for a registration key...? unclear. But it DOES work, so that’s a BIG step. converted mov to wmv and voila!

Elmware Guest | Hi,
I have the Kodak EasyShare C530 which also makes MOV files. I tried the TMPGEnc method with the QTReader plugin but when I convert to MPG, there’s these undesirable squares that appear in sharp contrasting colors (usually green sometimes red or yellow) flashing all over the picture. It makes the animation look like it went corrupt or something. What could be causing that and what settings can eliminate them?
Thanx. | |

Elmware Guest | Problem solved.
I set the frame lower and the squares went away.
Also, for those who are wanting to reduce the file size, here’s 1 tip that might help you out. If your camera doesn’t record sound, and your software has an option to save video only (no sound), select that option and you’ll have a smaller.

Elmware Guest | I don’t use RAD because they were the ones who removed Ad-Aware from your computer without your permission.

sharpie12 Guest | Hey i need help. I downloaded RAD VIdeo Tools and converted my mov files to avi.. but my windows movie maker still wouldnt take the files... it said it “could not be imported. The selected file is not valid or is corrupted." what does that mean and what do i do now?

March Guest | Hope it is cool to pipe in here - I tried the Rad Tools deal and was able to convert mov files created with a Kodak camera to avi files as described seemingly successfully - but could not view the video, just could hear the audio. I tried numerous times without success.
I then saw a link to a “QuickTime Alternative” offering when further researching my dilema - http://www.free-codecs.com/QuickTime_Alternative_download.htm
I downloaded the QuickTime Alternative version 1.77 software and did the installation, which removes whatever Quicktime software previously existed. With the then installed Media Player I was then able to play the mov files created with the camera direct - with no file conversion. The program interface for the Media Player is a bit hipper than QuickTime I believe.
This is the ticket - for me at least. The software is free but I will also suggest a donation to the program author should be considered.
