video, no sound

I have several old movies that I took of my son with my first web cam. I used a few different capture programs when I did it. Now several years later I try to play these video files (mpg) and I get video but no sound. I drop them into G-spot and gspot display N/A for the video and audio codecs..
I have no idea what codecs the original movies used.. Any ideas on how to get the sound?
