I read somewhee here that you can test MDF files without their respected MDS underling using DAEMON TOOLS.

Then I thought, would you be able to burn the CD only with a MDF, or do you need the corresponding MDS too?

Take a look at that. If you observe the MDF files have their own MDSes except for those cracks.
