hmmm, i tried what u said and when i try to add the .srt file.. it wont let me select, as in i click open (or double click) and it fails to show up on the line where it shows what subtitle file has been open, which means it has failed to open.

Did you specify the correct location of the VirtualDubMOD directory when you installed the text sub filter? In fact, are you SURE that you installed the VobSub plugins for VDubMOD to begin with? They aren’t checked by default, so this could be the culprit.
Below are two screenshots of what I mean.
Installation Options:

Select VirtualDub Install Dir:

Try reinstalling VobSub (first uninstall it though) with the added focus on making sure you select the two plugins I indicated in my previous post AND afterwards selecting the folder VDubMOD is installed to.

Please make sure that when adding subtitles, under the Styles... option, you are setting the correct frame rate.

upon request i have reinstalled, even though i had installed the two plug-ins before. I have yet again encountered the same problem, perhaps it is a faulty version i am downloading from - the installation 2.23 setup says that the installation has been completed successfully, yet the close button remains to active
this is where i downloaded it from, if possible, can you check to see if this vobsub is fully functionable

The installation itself went well; you just need to run Task Manager and close the process. A pain, yeah, but it’s a minor issue. It’s happened to me and my VobSub/VirtualDubMOD setup is fine.
VobSub v2.23 is the most recent version.
Check to make sure that the .vdf files were installed into the “plugins” folder (and nowhere else) in the VirtualDubMOD directory.
They would be the following two files:
textsub.vdf
vobsub_vd.vdf

No, you should not delete the .vdf files in the VobSub folder. I only meant within the VDub folder.
Anyways, there’s another option you can choose. If VobSub is totally hopeless, then install DirectVobSub (VSFilter) instead.
http://www.inmatrix.com/zplayer/formats/vsfilter.shtml
Copy the “VSFilter.dll” to the VirtualDubMOD plugin folder and rename it to “VSFilter.vdf”.
Then continue on as I instructed earlier.
That should hopefully do the trick.

u can only use a few select audio streams when u are using .avi, if u transferred from .mkv, u most likely have .ogg. Use a converter to change the .ogg to .mp3 (.avi acceptable and my preference) and ur audio stream should work
