Burning Mpeg Movies in fine mode to CD-R

I am trying to play mpeg movies on my DVD player which have been recorded in mpeg fine mode (640 x 480 30fps)- the sound is distorted and the visual is slow - I’ve tried different software to burn them onto disc but it makes no difference. They play fine on my computer though. Any idea why this fine mode affects playback on DVD players?? Many thanks
