My DV Camera freaks out when I connect it to my computer!

Four years ago bought a Sony DCR-TRV25E mini DV camera so I could shoot and edit films on my computer. It worked fine until earlier this year, because now for no reason the camera’s connection appears to be shakey. The screen on the camera flickers whenever I connect it to the computer. Sony are being typically unhelpful, saying they’ll only help if I send it away and pay them £172. I have used different cables and different computers and still the problem remains with the camera.

Please help!
