hi converting mpg to svcd using main concept anyway of limiting output file size as even if you split movie in half itll have to go on more than two cds

Not really. Your outputted file is deliberately 2 or 3 or 4 CD’s in size because it is SVCD MPEG-2 compliant.

If you mess with bitrate you cause it to become Non-Standard SVCD MPEG2, and these don’t always play correctly on standalone DVD Players etc. Lowering bitrate would also lower the quality of the picture.

I suggest using KSVCD if you want to create a good quality non-standard SVCD as you can change the bitrate without impacting the picture quality as much as if you were to tamper with a regular SVCD template. BTW, these only work correctly with TMPGEnc - one of the top S/VCD Encoders. Up there with Cinema Craft Encoder:
