Well my 1 gb card is brand new and the ijoy never has even recognized that it’s in there, my 256 not works flawlessly (don’t even know how i pulled that one off) I do know how to format a card in the ijoy, but i can’t because it dosn’t even know that the card is in there. The card works fine in my computer with my card reader. I could use some help on how to format a card in a card reader, i can’t seem to find how...i tried properties and a few things too but no luck. I think this may just be an odd ball thing with this particular unit/card from what i hear other peoples' 1 gig cards are working fine so just format the card in the ijoy like he^ said

THANK YOU! I very much appreciate your reply and help.
I will make sure my son does this with the card and I hope it will bring him success right off the bat.
He really enjoys his I-Joy. (which of course makes me happy that I found a gift that he is having so much fun with.)
Thanks again,
Mary

Sean Guest | Jayson, with your 1 GB card in the reader, try this. Open 'My Computer' and right-click on your card in the 'Devices and Removable Storage' section. Select 'Properties' (you should see a pie graph depicting the free/used space on your card). Now click on the second tab at the top of the properties window marked 'Tools.' Inside the top half of the window marked 'Error Checking,' click on the 'Check Now' button. Under 'Check disk options' put a checkmark in 'Automatically fix file system errors.' Hit the 'Start' button. When it’s done, it won’t tell you if you have any errors, but now you can format the card. Close the properties/tools window, and right-click on your card again, this time selecting 'Format.' In the box that pops up, FAT16 should already be the default (if not, then change it to that). Now click 'Start.' A little box will come up reminding you that formatting will erase all data on the card. Click 'OK.' Now your card should format with no problems. When that’s all done, try the card in your i-Joy again. This really should work for you; let me know what happens!

Sean Guest | Jayson, FYI:
FAT16 is the same thing as FAT. I just plugged my i-Joy into the computer, and in the format box, there were 2 options: FAT32 (which was the default) and FAT (which is the exact same thing as FAT16). What I’m trying to say is:
Format your 1 GB SD card using the FAT file system.
I wasn’t sure if you were aware that FAT and FAT16 were one in the same thing, and I didn’t want you getting confused over it. Sorry for the redundant information here if already knew this.

MRSMJAY Guest | don’t know if this will help anyone or not, but we couldn’t get mp3’s to play on my niece’s I-Joy...kept having the same problem as others, which, once unplugged from the computer it says NO FILE. It seems that it automatically tries to save to the internal memory, which won’t hold it. It’s true that you need to put them in '100' folder, but, FIRST, you must go into SETTINGS, and format the removable card !!! If you don’t format it, you can store on it !!
Boy, did we learn this the hard way !!!
Hope this helps someone !!!

One Guest | Sorry to change the subject, but there aren’t too many forums for the I-joy. i.e. I only found this one in a google search.
Got one for xmas 05. ?? any of you checked out for any better batteries yet? Ours seems to run down pretty quickly. I am just starting the search for a replacement, but the one that came with the unit only has volt and mAh specs no model number etc. for searching. ????
Thanks for the posts about video. So far just playing with music and using it as a video cam. Personally, for the price I find it a great multi-function “gadget”.
Be well.

Momof3 Guest | I am following your directions to download music, but the computer is saying the “disk is not formatted, do you want to format?" I don’t want to ruin my daughter’s iJoy! Should I click yes? Sorry, she lost the owner’s manual, so we are trying to figure this out w/out one! Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Entree Rep: 0 Joined: 17 Jan 2006 Posts: 7 OFFLINE | Wow, a question I can answer!
The battery in the I-Joy is also used in Nokia cell phones. Search using “NOKIA 7210 battery” and you will find it.
The battery that came with the I-Joy I gave my son for Christmas would not charge fully and ran down very quickly (about 15-20 minutes usage), so I replaced with another and the problems have cleared up.
The batteries can be found online cheaply (less than $10.00 a piece) and I suggest two of them. I also picked up a charging unit for the batteries off of eBay and it works great. I originally purchased two charges from East Maze, but they are not good, so I don’t recommend them, but they do have cheap batteries and they seem to be OK. Do not try buying the extended battery from them though as this too seems to have problems.
Hope this helps.

The answer is yes. Reading backwards in this forum topic you will find Sean has been great at answering this previously and also explaining how to do it. His advice should help you out here.

Momof3 Guest | Thanks for your response! I actually kept playing with it after I posted last night, and eventually was able to get it to work. Though when I told the computer to format the disk, it said the disk was corrupted! But somehow I found a different way to the control panel and eventually to the 100 file that actually worked, and my daughter now has music Just wanted to say thanks for the help and I’m very grateful this site exists. I’ve been searching for help for awhile, and came across this yesterday. Sean, thanks especially to you for sharing your expertise!

Sean Guest | At this point, no worries about changing the subject. As you can tell, this thread has pretty much evolved into a general i-Joy discussion/Q&A spot. As One was saying, there really aren’t any other discussions going on about the i-Joy and it really is great that when people do a Google search, this forum comes up.
Sunnyside2day, right on with the battery info. I really find it interesting though that the original battery that came with your son’s i-Joy wouldn’t hold a charge, because mine was the exact same way. Do you happen to remember if the battery was already in the unit when it was first opened? The seller on eBay that I purchased mine from tests the i-Joys before sending them out, and although that is a good thing, the problem was that he was leaving the batteries in the units after testing them and shipping them out that way as well (or at least mine was). Like the instruction book says, you really shouldn’t leave the battery in the i-Joy (or any device that uses batteries for that matter) if you know that you will not be using it for a long period of time because it shortens the life of the battery. And you’re right, the replacements are very cheap; I paid $10.33 for one including shipping on eBay, so that’s not bad. Good idea buying 2 batteries at once! Then you can keep one charged at all times in case you run low on power and don’t have any place to plug it in, or if you don’t have the time. Generally, the battery lasts a maximum of 2 hours on one charge, but it all depends on what you’re doing. Shooting video or constantly taking pictures eats up the power more quickly than say listening to music does. Then again, the screen shuts off when you listen to music, so that helps. Oh, and glad to hear the 1 GB card works!
Sha-nay-nay, I don’t know what would be causing that. If you have your files in the right directory and they’re in the right format (MP3), then it should work. Formatting seems to be solving most peoples' problems, so make sure to try that. If not, post again and tell me what size card you have and, if you can, try using the card in another device and see if it works.

Sean Guest | I know this is going to sound like a strange request, but does anyone have the original UPC from their 1 GB PNY SD card? I sent mine in for a rebate, only to get a postcard in the mail stating that my submission was missing the UPC. I did send the original UPC in though; I have no idea what happened to it. The rebate center must have lost it or something (which kinda ticks me off). Anyways, I just got off the phone with someone over at PNY and they said that there’s nothing they can do until I send in the original UPC by February 12 (which doesn’t help me too much — I don’t have the UPC anymore because I already sent it in, and what’s even weirder is that February 12th is a Sunday...no mail service...weird). If anyone still has their original UPC and is willing to send it to me in the mail as soon as possible, I would be forever grateful to you. If you can do this, please email me at shggybr@localnet.com so I can give you my address.

Entree Rep: 0 Joined: 17 Jan 2006 Posts: 7 OFFLINE | Hi Sean - I bought my son’s I-Joy from Buy.com and it was a sealed box. The battery was not in the I-Joy... it was in a sealed plastic bag so it had never been charged previous to his doing so. Perhaps the batteries were just outright defective in some of them.
And for those who love their I-Joy’s it would be a very good idea to purchase at least one more battery. As we have all seen, with the advances in technology and the ongoing changes, these type of batteries don’t stay available on the open market very long.... they are replaced with something else within a year or two sometimes even less time! I think everyone hopes their I-Joys will be around for awhile, so might want to pick up another battery or two to make sure you can keep using them.
My son is so sold on his I-Joy, I am seriously thinking about picking one up for myself! And at least I know if I run into trouble with it I will have not only my son to ask questions, but this great forum too! I am really glad it exists and that I ran across it.
Oh, and Sean, I haven’t checked out this board since my last reply until tonight so I didn’t see your message on the 30th regarding the UPC until tonight. But I have text messaged my son to see if he still has his packaging for his card. I know it is a long shot... he isn’t a pack rat like I am, but maybe..... I will let you know if he has it still.

Sean Guest | As a side note, I just saw the i-Joy on WSS (a home shopping type television network) being marketed as the Concord DVx. So that now makes 3 names for the exact same device: i-Joy MobiDV H12, Minox MobiDV H12, and Concord DVx. All of which are the exact same camera, manufactured by the exact same company (CellStar).
Concord (being an American company) looks like it may just be the i-Joy’s ticket into North American retail stores, meaning that seeing one at your local Wal*Mart by the early part of this year’s holiday shopping season may be a very real possibility. The awesome part comes in knowing that if you own an i-Joy now, you are one of the first to have this technology. The hybrid camera craze has just begun! Oh yeah, and while everyone else is still trying to put MP3’s on their cameras, you’ll already have movies on yours.
Speaking of movies, I just finished coding a new setting for 3GP Converter with a faster frame rate and better audio quality without popping and clicking in the background. I’ll post more info soon, but I want to keep toying around with it for a few more days to make sure it’s good to go.
