skipping vcd's

i have recently made a few vcd with mainconcept encoder but after burning and playing them on my dvd player they seem to skip say every 30-60 secs i was wondering whether this was because of my encoding the burning or the cd’s im using. by the way when using tmpgenc encoder this seems to give out files much larger than they should be does anyone know the reason for this as i have made vcd’s before and they have been ok i dont know if is cause i changed the encoder or different cd’s also i am now burning the cd’s with my new dvd burning on my pc. what speed should i burn these vcd’s or does it not matter.
