Viewing jpegs and .mov files on Nikon Coolpix 7900 LCD

I would like to be able to transfer jpegs that were’nt originally taken on the camera from my computer to the camera nad view them on the LCD.
When I transfer them the camera does not recognise or see them. The camera has no record of the file on the memory card, yet when I look at the windows explorer view, the camera is represented as a removable disk and the files are shown on it.
The same applies with .mpegs that I have converted into .mov (the Nikon format): I tried to transfer a .mov on the camera and then view it, but no data is seen.
