Entree Rep: 0 Joined: 05 Feb 2008 Posts: 1 OFFLINE | Just a quick question for any of you who have the DV-9900DX. I just bought one, and it is being shipped to me, and I am curious if this only works on DVDs or will it also work on say an avi/mpeg file ripped from a DVD? Does the nature of the thing mean I have to have the original DVD? If so, would an ISO work?

pcreep Guest | Hi Gaijin In Japan,
I am a gaijin in Japan as well and would really appreciate it if you could tell me where to buy the Olymia DV-9900! I am not much of a net user and prefer to go to a shop to buy stuff. Is this device available in shops that sell electrical appliances/gadgets like yamada denki/denkodo?

Gaijin in Japan Guest | The closest English translation for the store name is “AKIBO”. There are several very small shops in Akihabara. The sign is red and in yellow lettering, the Japanese character looks like "@".
They have a very diverse assortment of electronic accessories and memory. Most of the shops are on the street behind LAOX and one of them is around the corner from a Gyro sandwich stand. Hope that helps.
If not, I still see guys selling it on EBay.

VoiceOfReason Guest | Everyone keeps talking about how the mosiac can definitely be removed because they have see it removed on videos from various filesharing networks.
First, there are many AV sites that will use algorithmic methods to mosaic their videos in accordance with Japaneese law. They will then sell the videos and provide the software to remove the mosaic to international customers, since this does not violate their laws. This is what you folks are seeing. Unless you have both the software and the algorithm, you are out of luck. Trying to “crack” the algorithm could be as difficult as trying to crack any encryption, depending on how complex it is.
It is certianly possible to “enhance” the mosaic via software, but it will NEVER completely remove it. Also, almost ALL of these “filtering” methods will seriously reduce the underlying quality of the areas of the video that are not censored. The smaller the original file, the worse the damage to the uncensored video. Here is the general idea:
1.) Reduce the size of the original video via algorithmic filters. The amount of reduction necessary depends on the number of pixels per mosaic square. You either need to reduce to raw AVI (HUGE filesizes) or use a lossless compression method (just LARGE filesizes).
2.) Resize again using chained algorithemic filter processes. The number of fliter processes depends on the amount of reduction needed. Use regular preferred compression methods for final output.
The results are usually significantly less than stellar.

alien101 Guest | I bought an Olympia DV-9900 near the end of last year from a seller in Japan on Ebay. It was a complete waste of money. I have pretty large collection of Japan AV and it didn’t work of any of them. So the DV9900 that I bought is either defective or this whole thing about mosaic removal is a SCAM. I think it’s the later. SO be warned , save you money and don’t but it.

Anoym Guest | I have a mosaic removing program that I develop using my own brains and its capable of removing mosaic to nearly matching what the original master copy would look like. I’m willing to share it with anyone who is interested in it. Of course, theres a price to be had so e-mail me at: JapFreakV@hotmail.com. We will discuss more about this if your interested.

iwantyou Guest | Japanese law prohibits the showing of genitalia. Most large Japanese AV production companies abide by this law or risk being closed down by the Japanese Censorship Office. For super popular AV actresses, you will probably never find any of their uncensored videos until either they have retired or decided to film outside of Japan (these videos will never be released in Japan). Nevertheless, AV actresses are actually shunned if they have uncensored videos floating around the market as Japanese production houses would find it a liability to work with her and her agent. As for the uncensored videos floating around the Internet, we have some of them too, but generally, some of them were de-censored in Taiwan with sophisticated expensive equipment and most of them feature tier 3 actresses
