Hey everyonesmiley

I have a problem with converting to asf. When I use Sunplus PMP Transcoding I have a video looking like a mix of coloured boxes. I tried using Blaze video 2, when I open it with player on my computer everything works, but when I send .asf file to my mp4 player it looks very bad, all the coloures are mixed, I can hear the sound, but cant see anything!!!!

I’ve already read all the posts in this topic.

IS there anyone who has already solved this problem with convertion to asf??

Can anyone help me??
Maybe some codecs are needed??

Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is just a suggesition but maybe you should download the DIVX codec... because that is what it uses to transcode it. If you already have it i do not know what it wrong...

Hope that helps...

Finn, I’m sorry, but I wouldn’t know how to figure out the size for you. That’s measured by diameter or radius? Here too, I don’t have a ver fine ruler - short of taking it to Radio Shack and asking them.

But that’s still an idea — take your PMP4 player to Radio Shack and ask “What fits into this that has these specifications?" from the photo I linked above.

My lady keeps the player on her nightstand. That means it’s well liked.

Hey,
I have been experimenting with PMP Transcoding tool and no matter if i try to convert a vob file or a divx (320x240) it still comes out with colored boxes. Moreover something else that’s really bothering me is the ENORMOUS file size. From what I’ve read, it seems that you cannot convert into MPEG-4 ASF using any other converter except the PMP Transcoder (I don’t have the unit on me so I can’t test it)?? Is it worth me to buy this???

Hey People!!!
I’ve already solved the problem with conveting!!!!
I used to convert by PMP SUNPLUS that was included on the cd in the box.

This version of SUNPUS PMP IS WRONG !!!

YOu have to dowload the version form following link:
http://www.media-tech.pl/pub/drivers/mt823.rar

This version really works! Size of the file is also O.K.

Thanks for the reply! That really helps! I was wondering if anyone figured out a way to do batch conversion??

No, you cannot use batch converting with the Sunplus tool. It does give reasonably good size output... I reccomend the PMP. I’m will be getting a 1GB SD card, that will top the PMP off!

I reccomend it!

Hope my comments help!

hmmmm.. i was wondering... since i’m still not satifisfied with the lack of options in the SunPlus program.. i was wondering if it would be possible to double-process the file. First through the SunPlus program (so that it gets it in the right codec etc.) and then importing this asf file into another program (like VirtuaDub.. even though i dont think that supports ASF) and simply reducing the frame rate or bitrate to cut down on the file size... anyone think this will work? if it can... any idea of a program that will keep the codecs of the source file but allow you to mess with the options..

That means you will have to convert it twice...

If you look at the conversion details it show:

Stream Mapping:
Stream #0.0 -> #0.1
Stream #0.1 -> #0.0

I think this is what makes the PMP converter so special... the stream mapping. Please check it out. I have the PMP and that would be really helpful.

Thanks!

Thanks for all the info guys. I’ve got much the same unit as many describe here - mine’s a Unibit UF-850 - that a mate’s son picked up in China.

Sometimes on the video the sound seems very badly distorted, a kind of metallic echo sound. It was really quite hard to accept when I first got the unit, but now I don’t really notice it. I’d vaguely thought if I could find a better transcoder then that would eliminate the problem. Never got close to finding anything that does it, so I just accept it now.

I also find the fast forward and rewind a bit weak, it would be good to speed them up a bit. I now break movies into 15 minute chunks so that if I have to shut the unit down I can pick up again reasonably quickly. That works fine, but for some reason the PMP seems to pick up video files in a random order. Anybody noticed this and solved it?

It’s similar with MP3s. I use Tag & Rename to give them all a track number as the start of the file name, so I have 60-80 individually numbered tracks. I copy them in that order too, yet the PMP insists on playing them out of sequence!

Despite these limitations, it’s a great unit. I travel interstate often and it’s a four hour flight each way. I charge the unit before I leave home and watch videos and listen to music right through. Ipod videos, PDAs, 3G mobiles and PSPs can’t get close to that.

Yea a few people have mentioned that. I don’t have enough knowledge about video files to know what to do with that information though. Can anyone help? If we can get some other software to write to the same streams as the SunPlus program we can probably get ourselves a much better converter.

I recently bought an mp4 player (Sunplus SPCA536)which came with the PMP Transcoding tool. I found these files too large so messed around a little with various programs.

The best I have found is Nero Recode using the Portable (not AVC) setting. Using around 220kbps gives a file of around 63mb per 30 minutes with decent quality (for a better quality file but larger use higher kbps). I found a 2 pass encoding to be no better than a 1 pass. The file is an mp4 extension - just rename this to asf extension.

Main thing to do or these will NOT play on mp4 player is to encode a few seconds of any video in this way and then use the PMP Transcoding tool to convert the file. Always keep this in your video folder or they won’t play.

Copy videos into folder DCIM/100MEDIA.

Hope this helps

Zippity, your a genius!

I wonder if you transcode it with something else and rename the extention...

Why do you have to put an asf transcoded by sunplus in the mp4 to make it work??

Thanks
