topsyturvy your sound awful cocky about that, you just didnt happen to know that some do, I had an apex combo DVD/TV and it played some mpegs and all avi files burned to a regular cdr, I dont know why they dont have all players do it it just seems that barely anybody knows they do and occasionally like the fellow above and myself people stumble on it

Download the freeware avitodvd this will convert your .avi to and .iso file. Then, you take that iso file you just converted and burn it on a dvd disc with another freeware called “dvd dycrypter” that’s all, you’re done. When converting my .avi to dvd(iso), I always do the 2-pass encoding this takes twice as long, but I am to believe that the quality is better. I’ve not tried the 1-pass to compare. But with the 2-pass, It takes anywhere from 2-6 hours per full movie. I hope this helps.

OMFG ! Whoever it was on this site that said to try a CD-R instead of a DVD-R .. YOUR A FREAKIN GENIUS! I’ve just spent the last week ...hours and over 12 DVD-R’s completely stumped on why my DIVX and DVD Flick programs were not working and showing that I needed to insert and empty disc! DVD Flick would act as though it was burning it perfectly but then the DVDR wouldn’t work in my player.. DIVX would say “insert a blank disc” .. I was LOSING IT ! and wasting so much time and discs until I found this site and read that advice.. I tried the CD-R and literally within seconds my episode of 90210 was burnt on CDR and played beautifully in my player ! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU !!!!!

If you have a dvd player who can read divx, you can puth the mp3 files on a data file, and avi files also, buth if it can’t read divx files you need to convert them to dvd files, and the programmes i know is nero and convertxtodvd.

then you burn them on a DVD-R DVD+R DVD-RW DVD+RW and you can watch them on any dvd player

how do i know my dvd player can read divX? well you look at the front of your dvd-player and there stands the name, brand and such, wel if there is the logo for divx (the logo is DivX in a special font) it can read it.

there are also divx dvd’s with an usb connection, wel you take your usb stick, and plug it in your computer, and you puth a movie on it, if you want subs, you puth the subs in as well (they both need the same name as in lake: the fast and the furious.avi and the fast and the furious.srt) and then you plug it in your divx player, and it will open up the movie, you can watch it, there is no menu, buth if the subs aren’t there you click on subtitels on your remote control, and then it turns on the subs

You need a tool which can convert the format of camorder to DVD format, and burn it to DVD.

I know one called iSkysoft DVD Creator.
It can burn and convert almost all popular video formats such as FLV,

MPEG1, MPEG2, MP4, DAT, 3GP, 3G2, MOV, AVI to DVD.
Besides, you can also edit the video by changing effection, edting the title and adding background music as you like.

You also can make your file smaller by setting the code ratio and resolution, the smaller their numbers are, the smaller the file will be.

There are many DVD players that will play AVI files. I have 2 different ones and neither of them cost more than $30.00. Go find the cheapest DVD player you can find and try it. if it will not play AVI files take it back. the ones I have found to work so far are an Oritron and a Curtis both very inexpensive but play great quality.

Why are movies put in avi format. Why not just load them in mpeg4 to start with. It would save us all time and frustration. With today’s technology we should not have to be converting files to watch a movie. Most people want to watch the movie on the TV not the computer. Can anyone answer this? Thanks to Nakolai for letting me know to look for a player that is divx/xvid/mpeg4 enabled. This has to be the best answer. All this converting takes a lot of time. What I don’t get is Windows media player 11 will play the avi file but when you try to burn it the file is to large. A 700,000mb movie won’t fit on a 2.4GB disk. So you have to convert it. Stupid.

syncm wrote: Just go to divx.com and download the codec package, and then just open the file in windows media player and you should be good to go. If you have downloaded the divx codec, and it still won’t play then go and google xvid, and download its codec. It should work then. As for playing the .avi on your dvd player, if you have nero 5.5, you should be able to make a VCD, which your dvd player should be able to play.

i have installed all of the above, but it still wont play the AVI file on any of the players i have installed, windows media player, real player, divx player im going barmy!

help any one
