Hi. I think the problems here are mostly caused by misunderstanding the various video formats. To play on home dvd player you need a properly authored dvd VOB file. You cant just create a VOB file - and softwares that claim to do so are just converting via other formats and mostly end up with a mess. So, there are 2 simple steps to burning avi (or any other random video format) onto a DVD that will play in a normal home dvd player.

Step 1) Convert the file to MPEG-2. This is the standard for tv, and dvd movies. I reccomend the free version of “Any Video Converter” to do this, downloadable at http://www.any-video-converter.com/download/

Step 2) Use a DVD authoring software to create the VOB file or ISO image for the disc. Basically VOB is just an MPEG-2 movie with a few extra bits of info code added that the dvd player needs. There are countless freewares available for dvd authoring, just google it. You’ll probably already have one on your computer. Using said DVD authoring programme you should be able to burn your final authored file directly onto disc and it will play in your home dvd player. A few authoring softwares don’t have a burn feature, they just spit out a VOB or ISO file. Thats fine - use your normal burning programme (such as Nero) to burn to DVD.

Cheers guys, and I hope that solves all your various video to DVD problems.

My suggestion would go buy one of those cheap portables dvd players. I have both a 5 in and 7 inch screen version. And they play anything i throw at it. I just burtnt I am legend avi to a blanc dvd, no special programs, just burnt it, and it played great in my $40-$50 players. Something about the portalbles is they play everything. jpges, mp3s, avis etc. And you can hook them up to a big tv!
My brand portable is haier.
Try it out!

You have to pay for Cucosoft, so that was a pretty useless exercise downloading that software. Please mention in future.

To get from .avi to a burned DVstraight Download “AVI2DVD” FREE software to do the encoding. Download “DVD Decripter” FREE and feed the .ISO file created by AVI2DVD progran as input. It will burn great DVDs. I have done it this way many times using the default settings. May not be the as fast as others but it is easy and IT IS ALL FREE - and not just trial versions - free!
