you can have a try, i think it’s a good option:

Kazza Guest | Hey TopsyTurvy - you seem very knowledgeable...
Do you know where i can find a media player which will be able to play my avi’s on my tv off a hard-drive. (but not one that costs a fortune!)
If possible I’d like to bypass having to burn to disk, saving time and energy.

noonyyy Guest | Hi everybody, ther is a way to play the avi file on your dvd without any coversion or splitting.
Using Nero 7.0 or higher , you have to select the button saying “increase .avi file comptability to wotk on dvds” , you 'll find on the left panel, when selecting the speed of burning.
So you will be able to burn the avi file to your standard 700mb cd without using any conversion, or splitting.

SammyY Guest | I’m trying to convert .avi files (which run on my computer with no problem) to some format that I can play on my TV. I’ve tried a bunch of the suggestions made on this forum:
a) bought a DivX DVD player, but it couldn’t recognize the AVI disc (no big deal; the store took it back);
b) tried to convert the files with Nero 6, which went through the whole lengthy conversion process and ended up with a blank disc (both with VCD and SVCD);
Help!!??
Thanks! | |

ravedaddy769 Guest | ok look guys im sitting here right now watching avi,divx,mpeg1,mpeg2,mpeg4,all on dvd’s...i have been doin this for bout 4 years,,,so it can be done,and it is very simple,,,all you need is nero,,any version will do,,just simply choose all the mpegs or avi’s you want and build a folder for them label it movies or whatever,should fit bout 5 to 6 avi movies in there bout 3 to 4 mpeg movies,,,bout a whole tv season in avi,,,anyway just SIMPLY OPEN NERO AND CHOOSE THE DVD SETTING AND CHOOSE DATA,,,BURN IT IN DATA FORMAT,,,,IT WILL WORK AND EACH AVI WILL BE ITS OWN CHAPTER SO YOU CAN USE THE REMOTE ON YOUR DVD TO CHOOSE MOVIES OR EPISODES IN THE MENU,IF THIS DOES NOT WORK,YOU NEED A NEW DVD PLAYER BECAUSE DVD PLAYERS USUALLY HAVE MPEG COMPATIBLE DRIVERS BUILT IN(ITS USUALLY STANDARD IN TODAYS DVD PLAYERS))I BOUGHT MINE AT WALMART FOR $39.00.....THIS IS ONLY ONE WAY TO DO THIS BUT IT IS THE EASIEST AND FASTEST WAY AND IT IS VERY RELIABLE,,SO I HAVE FUN KIDZ..

Lord_Richard_2 Guest | if a video gets sound but no picture after u download it, u need a codec, a plugin that is used to read the file after it is compressed. U can find the codec by searching on google, most of the time it is divx or xvid. U can also find a program that analyzes the avi to find what codec u need for it....
U can find software on the internet that will take an avi, and convert, and burn on a dvd so it can be playable in dvd players with just 1 click. But they don’t use menu’s or anything else....
